civilized ku # 1056 ~ ode to Wings of Desire* ...

This blog is intended to showcase my pictures or those of other photographers who have moved beyond the pretty picture and for whom photography is more than entertainment - photography that aims at being true, not at being beautiful because what is true is most often beautiful..

Troy-Bilt ~ Long Lake, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggenOn the entry civilized ku # 1038-49 / picture window # 42, Sven W (no link provided) asked:
Is it just me, or am I noticing more light to white colours in your images? The way your images retain the detail and tones in the whites is very appealing....Are these images generally done as an exposure blend?
my response: In fact, many of my recent picture do exhibit "more light to white" colors. However, I attribute that to the fact that I have been picturing in rather bright radiant sunlight, albeit early morning, late afternoon, or early evening light, not to anything different in my RAW conversion / processing routine. And yes, many of the pictures, but by no means all, are exposure blends - some for +shadow detail, some for +highlight detail, some for both.
That said, I'm certainly glad to read that you're noticing it.
Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers ~ on the lawn/ NCCCA - Plattsburgh, NY • click to embiggenThe Artist Reception at NCCCA last evening was a resounding success. Nice turnout and lots of great/positive feedback on all of the work, Aaron's Cinemascapes and my life without the APA and ART ~ convey/transport/reflect pictures and Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers entertained outside on the lawn.
It was a nice event and I sold 2 limited edition - signed, numbered edition of 20 - life without the APA books.
Blue Spruce Motel ~ Keeseville, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggenThere is strip of old motels on Rt. 9 just waiting to turn into ruins. Some are still open although serving primarily as residences for those who can afford nothing else. Some, like the Blue Spruce Motel, are closed and just waiting to turn into ruins.
The motels originally depended upon tourists who visited Au Sable Chasm which is about a mile down the road. While tourists still visit the chasm, few, if any, stay overnight in the area.
That said, I would have dearly loved to have seen (and pictured) the Blue Spruce Motel sign ablaze in its heyday. Must have been quite a sight.
A sign of things to come • click to embiggenWhile in Montreal on Tuesday, I didn't think of making any ART ~ convey/transport/reflect pictures until this one whacked my upside the head/eyes.
In any event, this evening is the artist reception for the Twisted DNA (father and son) exhibition. Should be both fun and interesting.
PS - the offer - to anyone who says they saw it here and comes to see the exhibit - still stands ... a no-change 1-2 day (your choice) Digital Printing Workshop.

I have many Jackson Pollock moments. In fact I had one yesterday morning while looking down into my weed/compost bucket.
Thanks, Mary - your Nature (Discordant) pictures are about as "Jackson Pollock" as things gets. Very nice work.

Sundown ~ Montreal, CA • click to embiggenYesterday afternoon the wife and I went to Montreal where we were greeted by pouring rain. The wife needed to shop for some upholstery fabric. After purchasing the fabric we went to Old Montreal and acted like tourists.
The sun came out and our first stop was Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours Chapel where we climbed the steps to the tower for a great view of Old Monteal and the harbor/port. Then it was enjoying the nice weather with a walk down and back on Rue St. Paul Ouest.
Next, we dined at Cafe Forget - started with escargot, followed by a fruits de mer crepe for me and mushroom and asparagus crepe for the wife, and finished with a most delicious made-to-order warm apple pie that was a superb blend of a taste/hint of carnival funnel cake, fresh fruit, and caramelized apples. Absolutely delightful.
A cup of coffee later and it was back to the car - where a $52.00 parking ticket barely diminished the picture perfect sundown sky experience - and we headed back home.
