After sunset / Rist Camp ~ Newcomb, NY - in the Adirondack Park • click to embiggenSince my return from Rist Camp, I've been busy, amongst other things, processing many of the picture I've made over the past 5 weeks. About 50 of them are finished with another 20-30 awaiting my attention. And, of course, I continue making more pictures.
In any event, I'm getting back into the blog posting thing and will be posting more pictures along with some of current thoughts on the medium and its apparatus.

Jazz quartet - BarVino ~ North Creek, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggenWednesday evening, the wife and I went down the road a bit to the nice little hamlet of North Creek to fetch some post-surgery meds and have dinner.
FYI, North Creek is a small-scale version of Lake Placid inasmuch as it is a ski mountain (Gore Mountain) village. However, unlike Lake Placid which is dressed up to the nines, North Creek is authentically early 20th Century Adirondack - old store fronts which, with few exceptions, house mom and pop businesses. The most obvious exceptions are a thriving upscale inn/hotel and a now-defunct attempt at introducing a modern 5 store strip shopping center, one just like you'd find in suburban New Jersey.
In any event, while the wife was in Rite Aid, I became utterly fascinated by the front of the store and the way in which the light was falling upon it. The cumulative visual effect was that of a Hopper painting. Consequently, I made quite a number of pictures of the store front. In fact, more pictures than I have made of any non-moving/living referent in a very long time.
The one presented here is the one which I believe captures the essence of what I saw. Nevertheless, upon my return home this weekend, I'll process some of the other pictures and post them so you can be the judge of which one is "best".
BTW, dinner was outstanding and accompanied by live jazz music.

Apples in tree / on ground ~ Newcomb, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggen
Apples in bowl ~ Newcomb, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggenWhen the wife and I arrived at Rist Camp, it would have been impossible to ignore the apple trees - long unattended - behind the camp. Some apples had fallen on the ground and our main concern was to park the cars in spots where apples wouldn't fall on them. Eating them was not even on the radar.
Fast forward to my good friend Robert - a professional chef in NYC - showing up and what appeared to the wife and me as "bad apples" turned into some very galumptious applesauce. During the same week as Robert's visit, the wife's good friend, Ann (from Denver), was also visiting and, lo and behold, the next thing we know we're all savoring some of her equally galumptious apple crisp made from the same "bad apples".
Just goes to show how there are some amongst us who have the vision to turn shit into shinola.

Tom, Hugo, Carter ~ Newcomb, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggenYesterday dawned cloudy and overcast but by 11AM the overcast had given way to blue sky and fluffy clouds. By the same time, Hugo and his hockey linemate Carter had also arrived and I deemed it a perfect day for a seaplane trip. So I called my friend Tom to see if he was available to fly us around. The answer was "yes" so he flew us around and it turned out to be a perfect day for seeing parts of the Adirondacks by air.
