civilized ku # 806 ~ crunch time

I've been busy ~ Au Sable Forks, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggen
Since last I mentioned the newly renovated store front on Main Street - civilized ku # 803 ~ who knows? anything could happen - I've been as busy as an Adirondack beaver on an un-damned Adirondack stream. But that's to be expected when one commits to a 24 picture exhibition - Friday • January 14th - with less than 2 weeks of prep time.

Yesterday and today, I seeded the gallery with a few "teaser" prints and an exhibition / opening reception notice for The Forks/there's no place like home so it's sink or swim time.

Thankfully, I have an old friend and former assistant from Pittsburgh coming up to help with all the prep which includes: making all the prints, mounting all the prints, and eventually hanging all the prints; prepping and getting 8×8 inch exhibition book layout to the POD printer and back by opening night; email invitations; opening reception refreshments; the production of 6 10-picture boxed portfolios for the opening reception; and what seems like a thousand and one other details.

That said, the single most important and demanding detail is strictly a solo endeavor - editing the nearly 100 select pictures from my Au Sable Forks body of work down to 24 pictures for the exhibit. I have, after getting it narrowed down to 48 pictures, solicited a few opinions but, ultimately, it's all up to me.

In any event, I'm enjoying the entire process. It's both a challenge and a pleasure and I am absolutely certain that it will be well worth the effort.

Out ofinterest, when selecting the exhibition images, what is the criteria you are using?

Also, are you planning on posting an online gallery of your final 24?

BTW: Good luck and best wishes for 2011.

Hi Mark,

Glad to hear of this show that you are working toward. I wished I lived closer so that I could see the framed prints in person in a gallery setting. As a consolation prize, I am hoping that you will do us a favor and post some pictures of the opening reception and also of the work hanging on the walls.

Best of luck.

All the best on on your gallery opening!!!!

Two questions: do you have a fixed size for the hanging prints and what is it? How are you boxing the portfolios? Oh and the book? I totally realize that you are too busy to address these questions now, but if you could deconstruct the event afterwards that would be great.
