On the recent entry, man & nature # 188 ~ incredible, simply incredible, "Tracy" (no link) asked:

Has Hugo got a camera yet? looking forward to his pov

2 years ago, I gave Hugo a camera for Xmas. His dad, The Cinemascapist, has been less than consistent in making sure the battery is charged and in putting it in his hands on a regular basis. Shame on dad.

Nevertheless, Hugo has a rather incredible visual sense and sensitivity so when he's with me and the wife, he asks to use one of my cameras on a fairly regular basis and, at times, the result can be quite freaky.

That said, today's Bog River sandbank and ledge picture is a case in point. On a recent multi-day canoe trip, I was busy picturing away on a sandbank when Hugo approached and asked to use a camera. I complied, stepped aside, and one of the pictures in this triptych is by/from the eye of Hugo.

Anyone want to make a guess as to which one? If you do, please let me/us know the reason(s) for your choice.

re: the photos above. I doubt he could center the pine cone pile as well as it is done in the middle frame, so that's probably not it. The left image looks to be from several feet above ground. So I'm guessing the right image. If I were to guess why, I'd say he thought it looked like a vampire cave? or Batman's house?

The right hand one because the view point is looking up - and children just love looking up - and down, left, right, back, behind, around ... everywhere except (or at least not only) straight ahead! Watch a child looking through binoculars for the first time - the whole world is there to be seen and savoured.

The middle one - precisely because it is centered on the pinecone. When I showed my 5 year old how to use the macro mode she couldn't have been more thrilled - another new world.

I actually think it is the center one, because i heard the lad and pop having a long discussion, when looking in the view finder, of how Hugo would like the picture squared, and the appropriate amount of corner vingetting. He feels pop's typical corner shading is too retro for his 4 year old sensibility.

I think it's the centre one. The right and left shots seem to me to be a diptych - root patterns spotted by Grandpa while in the centre image the pine cone looks like a small animal that would attract a childs attention. Grandpa would have centred the image when processing.

note: I was curious to know the answer and asked Hugo himself last night. Not sure if it was the square format and vignetting that threw him off, but he had no clue which one he shot?

I think the middle one could be by Hugo, it looks to me a bit like a Stegosaurus or a Hedgehog :-)
And thank you also for the "quite freaky" link, as I expected Hugo is a fine photographer, how wonderful is that!
