my response: Ray Brook Correctional Facility is a medium security federal prison. It was built and used as an athlete housing facility for the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics with the intent of using it as a prison after the Olympics. FYI, prison inmates were used to work on some the Olympic venues.
Upstate NY - as everything just north of the NYC metro area is (erroneously) labeled - is home to lots of prisons. The north country is no exception. The prisons employ a lot of upstate residents who are paid well (union jobs) with good benefits. Many local economies are dependent upon the prisons and NYS politicians (state and federal) have worked tirelessly to local prisons in their districts.

Do I see some potential "life without the APA" stuff in the latest few entries?
I believe there is Gotti Family member and a few other high-profile criminals in the local Federal institution Mike. The middle of the park is ideal I imagine, because they are surrounded by 6 million acres of forests and tiny towns...not really anywhere to run and hide from the dogs or search groups.
I have heard that rumours of the woods being full of man eating bears and wolves are somehow circulated at some of the prisons in Nothern Michigan. A lot of people not from the area don't really know any better.
