This blog is intended to showcase my pictures or those of other photographers who have moved beyond the pretty picture and for whom photography is more than entertainment - photography that aims at being true, not at being beautiful because what is true is most often beautiful..

FYI

SquareSpace is having some sort of "known issue" that causes all pictures on blogs to go missing. They claim the engineers are working on it.

This is problem #9,476 I have had with SquareSpace. If it were possible to move all my stuff to another blog hosting service - SquareSpace says it is not possible, I would do it in a NY minute.

Sorry to hear that, Mark. But in comparison to my self hosted blog, where I have all possibilities, but also all the work and all the responsibility, squarespace is not a bad choice. Even blogger had its hickups recently, for more than a day!

Seems self serving for them to say, "Oh, no you can't move your stuff." ??

You should be able to export your blog to a file then import it into the new service. But it's not that simple: you'll probably retain all of the words but some formatting may get lost and the images may get lost. You might have to massage the export file to suit the format recognised by the new service.

Unfortunately, there's no standard for blog formats, let alone the exported form of a blog. Welcome to IT (information technology)!

If you have a new provider in mind, they might have some tools to make it easier to convert a blog from another provider.

This post describes how to migrate your blog from squarespace to wordpress. I've been pretty happy with them. Mind you, I think there are hassles no matter which route you go, including self-hosting (which I've also done). But overall I'm pretty happy with wordpress.

Here is the link again in case it don't make it through the comment system: http://robpickering.com/2010/07/moving-from-squarespace-to-wordpress-3
