civilized ku # 459 ~ the tension between two realities

Behind Shop & Save ~ In the NE Adirondack PARK - Au Sable Forks, NY • click to embiggen

A photograph is what it appears to be. Already far from 'reality' because of its silence, lack of movement, two-dimensionality and isolation from everything outside the rectangle, it can create another reality, an emotion that did not exist in the 'true' situation. It's the tension between these two realities that lends it strength. ~ Richard Kalvar

This is one helluva photograph. Can't explain why I like it so much, but it strikes a chord with me. The flat and grey light is exposed perfectly and the composition really gives a sense of place. Just love it!

thanks, Svein-Frode - I feel exactly the same way about this picture. It really grabs me but I can't yet put my finger on just why that is so.

That said, the scene itself just grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and demanded that I picture it.

Agree. My eyes fixate on the side of the gray building in the center. No matter where I look in the picture I end up at the gray siding. Mystical.
