Long Lake Motel phone booth ~ Long Lake, NY - in the Adirondack PARK • click to embiggen
I'm back.

Last week, I mentioned that one the best seen/scene things (up to that point) on our Adirondack getaway was a phone booth. Well, here it is.

Other than seeing a phone booth - they have become increasingly rare - this booth was impressive in both its setting and its seat. In addition, when seen at night, it glows like a lighthouse beacon in the surrounding darkness in which sits. Altogether, it's quite a sight.

An another interesting thing - although many would call it an annoying thing - is that, once you venture beyond the "big" tourist towns of Lake Placid and a few others, very few motels, hotels, resorts, rental cabins, and the like have phones (other than in the check-in office). More and more, they have Wi-Fi, but phones are not part of the experience.

And, just to make it even more interesting, throughout most of the Adirondack Park, there is no cell coverage.

If you have wi-fi you can get onto Facebook. I have been told that you don't need anything else these days.
