civilized ku # 363 ~ what the world needs now is NOT love, sweet love
I have been avoiding entries of the political kind for a while now, although I would dearly like to have made a few. Heaven and Hell knows that there are a wealth of topics to touch on but ....
In any event, tonight I will be dining with a US Congressman who, on occasion, has had the ear of The President of these here US of America. So, I have drawn up a long list of things for him to pass on to President Obama, all of which fall under the title of "If I Were Running the World...." or "The World According to Mark" or, more specifically, "Could You Please Grow a Pair, or, Use the Pair You Got". Relative to the last title, it has been suggested in a growing chorus of voices that Obama should come out of his Ivory (Ivy League) Tower, put on the gloves, and take a stand or two or three or ...
I find that interesting in light of the fact that for the past 18 months or more, our house has been graced by the above pictured Hillary Clinton effigy. If you click to embiggen the picture you will most likely notice the ragged metal bars that line the top of her inseam. That apparatus aids immeasurably in her actions as a world-class nutcracker.
We, here in this household, tend to like Hillary in that "function" and, IMO, The President needs to adopt more than a little of the same "function", cuz if he don't start kickin' ass, bustin' balls, and taking names on quite a number of fronts and issues, we're the ones who are going to have our balls in a nutcracker. Although, if Obama keeps on the same path as he has been plodding, maybe Hillary will have his nuts in a cracker in 2012.
That said, I was wondering if any of you out there would like to add anything to my list of President Obama's "things to do".

I'm a little late to the dinner party but I agree with you 1000% - Obama needs to walk the talk. Health care, banking, and consumer protection. I've sent so many emails to Sens.Boxer and Feinstein here in California that I'm frankly, sick of repeating myself. It's so frustrating watching Obama roll over for the Repubs who, if they had their way, would steamroll us all just like they did in Bush's catastrophic eight years. Damn it!
Sorry Mark. IMO you are witnessing the death of progressivism in this country. Most people don't want a big costly controlling government. And no it's not about the Dems vers Repubs. There are progressives in both parties. It's about taking back our country and economy. I'm afraid Hillary is going to get her nuts crushed as well.
Live free or die.
"Live free or die"?
"Taking back our country"?
Apparently, Ron not only has no nuts, but has lost his mind somewhere along the way as well. Either that or he's just not paying attention. Did he actually say this after the Supreme Court decided in their infinite conservative wisdom to reverse a century's worth of law and court decisions and allow corporations to spend any amount they like on any political candidate they like? Or against anyone they don't like? Is that his idea of "living free"? He'd prefer that corporations have an even bigger say in how the country is run (or not run)?
In case you missed it, Ron, it's not the "big costly controlling government" that you need to worry about, it's the big costly banks and corporations. They're the ones you need to worry about.
As the man once said, "there's one born every minute, and he usually lives".
Damn, Mark. I'd kind of sworn off talking about politics, too. Then you had to go and stir the pot!
"Live free or die." sounds good. In order for that to happen you will need to disassemble the whole government/corporate system and rebuild it in a manner you see more fitting. There's no fix for what you have now. Demolish it and rebuild it -- it's about time.
Just what's on the list you've in mind?
A bailed out Wall Street with no accountability or change? Healthcare "reform" that is really a big payoff to Big Pharma and insurance companies? Oh No! On yes. A big payoff for campaign contributions. (Obamma's campaign instructed their Wall Street paymasters to contribute in small amount, but a lot of them, so they could claim to be supported by small contributors.) Guys like Obama get elected by alluding to populism and progressivism but they payoff big donors by working to be bipartisan, then it's the republicans fault Obama got what he really wanted but couldn't tell you.
