It has been opined that I should not have used the word "dumb" to describe the SoFoBoMo rule which I thought was .... well .... to be precise, dumb.

So I would like to reiterate, in no uncertain terms, that while I do think that the aforementioned rule is dumb to the nth power, I do not think that participating in SoFoBoMo is a dumb thing to do. I absolutely, without qualification, do not think that it is a dumb thing to do.

As a matter of fact, I wish the SoFoBoMo 2009 project all the success in the world. May their participation double or, for that matter, triple over last year's numbers. Seriously, I do. As far as I am concerned, anything that promotes the making of photo books is A-OK in my view.

god knows I've tried to get people to sh*t instead of just sitting on the pot but apparently I don't quite have the knack for it. I'm still mulling some ideas on the POD subject that I'll be hatching soon but I'm thinking that it will be a behind-the-scenes thing until it's up and running.

In any event, if SoFoBoMo tickles your fancy, I'd strongly recommend that you go for it.

Dumb is fair enough. I think last year many people actually did make their books into physical forms. PDF makes sense for people sharing on line.

As for the constraints as given - yup, they are what they are. Many people want to try and bargain and change the game. It seems quite a common response.

It is just that - a game - but the rules are the rules. Doesn't stop you creating another 50 books between now and then either, 10 photos, 1 photo in the entire book, shot in 10 minutes if you like, whatever you want.

But for SoFoBoMo specifically, the constraints are what they are. The bargaining and railing against them from many quarters is quite eye opening.

Don't forget, you are dealing with artists. If they liked rules, they would be lawyers.

Well, I finally decided to stop sitting and start shi**ing and oh boy it felt good! :-)

The first link is to Shared Ink and the second to Shutterfly. I decided I just liked the Shared Ink layout and design choices the best and went ahead and created a book there first. Then Shutterfly sent me a special offer to get a free 20 page book so I went ahead and pulled one together there too. Right now I'm waiting to receive them and see what they end up looking like on paper versus the screen. I was a little leary about the quality of Shutterfly after seeing a display of there products in a Borders bookstore and am curious to see how this turns out. The price is way cheaper of course, than Shared Ink, so I'm wondering how the quality compares.

Did you ever complete your Shutterfly book Mark?
