ku # 507 ~ Spring?
Yesterday it snowed all day. Tonight's (March 29) forecast low is 8 degrees. Somehow it just doesn't look or feel like Spring.
While a late-March snowfall isn't uncommon in these here parts, what is exacerbating the problem, spring look and feel wise, is the 12-18 inches of hard frozen snow on the ground - the result of a 3 day ice storm a few weeks back. The ground cover is rock hard and has seemed impervious to melting - not that we've had many daytime highs above freezing.
There was one really cool thing about the ice storm - late one night during the event, Hugo and I went outside and rolled marbles across the frozen snow. They rolled for 20-30 yards before hitting something that brought them to a stop. Cool.

my response: Thanks very much, James. FYI, I haven't abandoned ku by any means - amongst being very busy with work, scanning and posting my early 8×10 pictures, and some uninviting weather, I just haven't gotten out to picture recently. No need to worry, there's plenty more ku to come.

For the last 10 years around this same time in March, I've asked myself "Why do I live up here?". I never get a straight answer. What is more bizarre is that I become excited for snow to come again once September comes around. I must obviously blank out the month of March and April in my mind year after year.
I just want it cool enough to open a window in the house and clear the same stale air that lingers from october!
This is my second northcountry "spring", and either I have selective recall or last spring didn't seem so much like winter...I don't remember feeling so desperate for a thaw last year. The steps to our house have become an "ice ramp" which makes going outdoors even less likely. Just got back from Bloomingdale Bog and feel much better...other than the frozen fingers.
Ku #507...soft blue trim against Adirondack brown, glowing white frozen lake, and the drooping trees/scattering of downed branches on roof/ground...while I enjoy your decay series Mark, I miss the unique beauty of "the ku". And while I understand the need for change, I hope you continue to return to this project from time to time.

yes, this would have been the perfect year for Grampa Gravitas to put in that backyard ice rink for Hugo (and me). A simple 2x4 frame and the rink would have built itself.
