Stony Brook ~ Frank Winters

Frank Winters states - I look for the spiritual in nature. I'm studying Emerson and take every word in his essay Nature seriously.

The photo is a shot of Stony Brook -- a brook that runs through town (Westford, MA) hitting many conservation areas on it way. A lovely and moving brook with history and secrets galore. My photo is an attempt to capture some of the mystery the brook holds. The shot was taken in one of our most beautiful conservation areas -- full of wildlife, the Acker conservation land feels like wilderness but its near RR tracks, and a major intersection plus houses. Yet once you are in the land everything fades away.

Mark,
Very confusing on where to post a comment. The original comment here was for your ku gallery.

Frank,
I like the camera position that was selected. It makes me a part of the scene. The image does portray to me that part of the world fading away, probably defined by the view as presented. Very well done.

Mark,

Thank You. Its a great pleasure to see my image included in your blog! I admire your work and am learning to value your view point even more as I study your work.

And thank you Jim as well. Stony Brook is ancient and will persist for a long time now that we have stopped (for the most part) filling in and diverting streams and wetlands. Our town is fighting to slow and control growth but it's not easy or a done deal.

This is exquisitely quiet and real Frank, and in an Emersonian vein, contemplative. I don't think I can overstate how much deeper an image like this soaks into me than a shreiking mountain sunset. Ralph Waldo would stop and sit awhile.

Not only is the world around fading away, but we are offered a path into deeper wilderness, a mysterious place we can't quite make out from here. Excellent image to go with your comments.
