some FYI

I really appreciate the feedback regarding the move to SquareSpace. It's been very helpful in determining how I have set this blog up. One thing in particular to note, several of you have commented that 900×900pixel image popups are too big for your screens. As much as I might like to purchase 20" Apple Cinema displays for everyone, I have decided that downsizing the photographs to 750×750 would be more cost effective. Please let me know if this works for everyone

Don't hesitate to comment on issues regarding the set up of The Landscapist. Anything I am able to do to improve it, I will.

A plug for SquareSpace - I have found blog set up to be very easy and intuitive. On the few issues with which I had trouble, their email support has been very efficient and helpful. SquareSpace has number of features that I haven't implimented yet - site and topic specific Disscussion Forums, direct image upload to private folders for those of you who might want a prints-for-sale gallery here - but will be adding shortly. All in all I would venture that it's hip to be square.

just a thought...might be too much work or not worth it, but what about instead of making the thumbnails clickable....under or above them inserting

view: small | medium | large

or just 2 choices even??? not that they're tiny on my screen, but I do like the small details in a lot of your images (especially the "itchy & scratchy" works.).

Looking good! Two other suggestions to consider for your sidebar:
1) List recent comments. This will do a lot for interaction as visitors see at a glance where conversations are taking place and can get there in a single click.
2) List recent posts. This allows navigating from one post to ones other than immediately before or after without having to return to Main.

Are you suppose to be able to click on the images across the top to see them larger? If so it isn't working for me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I see if any of them are actually possible on SquareSpace.

Billie - no, there is no way to see them larger (other to go to my portfolio on photo.net and find them). It seems that every photo on SquareSpace is clickable whether there is a larger version or not. I check into that also.

750x750 is much nicer for me, since I'm using the very common 1280x800 15.4" laptop display.

Mark, thanks for making the adjustment to the smaller pop ups. 750 x 750 seems like a good compromise. I usually make my web files 800 pixels high, so 750 is close enough, and big enough to see the detail pretty well.
