civilized ku # 615 ~ on exhibit

Heavenly bodies ~ Smithsonian Air & Space Museum - Washington, DC • click to embiggenThe Smithsonian Air & Space Museum turned out to be the only museum we visited on our day-trip to DC. Hugo was fascinated by the place and we ended up spending 5 hours in the place, including viewing the IMAX 3D film, Hubble.
Hugo and I were totally taken by the Beyond: Visions of Our Solar System exhibit - a retrospective collection of photographs made by robotic spacecraft over the last 50 years...
Michael Benson has searched the extensive image archives of NASA and other planetary databases for the most extraordinary images of objects in our Solar System. Through skillful manipulation, he presents what our eyes might see if we could visit these spectacular places ourselves.
Combining art, science, photography, and exploration, Beyond presents a visual tour of these diverse landscapes ...
... some of which are both spectacular and beyond imaging. A few, like this one are downright surreal.
FYI, none of these large prints are pixel-peeping sharp but when viewed anywhere from 3ft and out, they are simply awesome.
In any event, if you are in DC, this is a must see. If you are anywhere within driving distance of DC, get in your car and drive there and see this exhibit.
life in pictures # 14 ~ LIES

Belvedere Vodka/LIES ~ NY, NY • click to embiggenWhile in NYC I was able to add a couple pictures to my life in pictures series (to see more, click on life in pictures under Journal Categories in the sidebar).
In this scene I was struck by the fact that someone put into a word what I am putting into my life in picture pictures, AKA - the connoted.
civilized ku # 610-12 ~ the light

Bannister and stairs ~ East Village - NYC, NY • click to embiggenThe trip to the South Jersey shore, as mentioned previously, started with a 2-day-and-a-night stop in NYC where I took the opportunity to make pictures of "the light", albeit mixed light sources. However, that fact should not be construed to mean that I am of the same mind as Leonard Misonne when he opined that ...
Light glorifies everything. It transforms and ennobles the most commonplace and ordinary subjects. The object is nothing; light is everything.
