About This Website

This blog is intended to showcase my pictures or those of other photographers who have moved beyond the pretty picture and for whom photography is more than entertainment - photography that aims at being true, not at being beautiful because what is true is most often beautiful..

>>>> Comments, commentary and lively discussions, re: my writings or any topic germane to the medium and its apparatus, are vigorously encouraged.

diptych # 35 ( picture window # 50 / single women # 26) ~ the beat goes on

picture window / single women ~ Chelsea, NYC / Hoboken, NJ • click to embiggenSometimes some projects just seem to slide on by without much attention. I really don't know whether that's because: a) I have too many projects going on, b) I can't bring myself to focus on just one body of work, c) the world at large just offers up to many diverse picturing referents, or, d) fear of commitment.

Whatever the cause - and I suspect that it's an unholy combination of all of the above multiple choice answers - while I was in NYC and environs, I did manage to add to 2 of my longstanding bodies of work, picture windows and single women.

PLEASE RESPOND There is a very specific reason for this quiz which will be revealed in an entry on Monday or Tuesday next.

I am allowing some time before the explanatory entry in order to allow for as many answers as possible because, IMO, the more answers there are, the more interesting and revelatory my explanatory entry can be. PLEASE RESPOND

And rest assured, no one will be graded on their answers because there are no right or wrong answers, there are only answers. In fact, it could be honestly written that every answer will be a right answer. PLEASE RESPOND

In order for you to answer, there must be a question. So, without further ado ...

What do see, taken as a group, in these pictures beyond their referent of visual record?

In others words, what do you "see" beyond the pictured subject? Or, what do you think these pictures are about, re: the inferred or the implied? PLEASE RESPOND

FYI, I "see" nothing beyond the visual is a very acceptable answer. On the other hand, Who gives shit? or Who cares? is not, simply because everyone should already know the answer to those questions - I do.

BTW, did I mention, PLEASE RESPOND?

picture windows # 48 ~ flowers

Flowers / Saturday morning ~ Au Sable Forks, NY - in the Adirondack Park • click to embiggenTime to spend some time in Purgatory, aka: the South Jersey Shore, where I am sure it will be hot as Hell.

It's 8:45PM and I'm about an hour away from starting my midnight run. I'll hit north Jersey about 2AM and there will be almost no one on the road. From there it will be, as they used to say, clean and green all the way to Stone Harbor.

I'm certain I'll make a few pictures and I'll share them and few thoughts about the future of The Landscapist with you upon my return. That said written, I will be posting during my visit to the shore.

All pictures ~ • click to embiggenThere is little more satisfying in the art and craft of picturing making than when a thematic body of work comes together as a cohesive entity. Granted, selling an office suite worth of my pictures ranks right up there, but, when you come right down to it, successful selling is most often predicated upon portfolio presentations - a kind of horse-before-the-cart thing.

So, as mentioned previously, one of my somewhat pressing objectives is to organize and edit my various bodies of work - currently numbering 9 very different individual bodies of work - into individual portfolios. The point of that exercise is to get those portfolios out to a number of galleries with the hope of having a few exhibits of my work. And, that objective met, to make some sales.
